Description
Description | Despite the fact that the protection against discrimination based on gender, gender identity and sexual orientation has long standing in the EU law, the state of equality in the EU and its Member States cannot be considered as satisfactory. This is particularly true when it comes to Poland with respect to two minority groups that seem to be at the greatest risk of discrimination and violence motivated by discrimination: women and LGBT+ persons, also due to fake news items concerning the so-called “gender ideology” or “LGBT+ ideology”. Limitation of their human rights marks deterioration of the state of the rule of law - the EU fundamental value. The proposed Jean Monnet Module responds to the identified challenges by providing innovative, policy- and law-oriented teaching and research on the EU issues extremely important to improve people’s understating of the roots and negative effects of the violence motivated by discrimination. Main aim: - promoting European Studies as a tool for fighting homophobia, transphobia and discrimination against women based on gender. Activities: - conducting 7 courses for ca. 120 students on selected aspects of violence motivated by discrimination in the EU and its Member States in the multidimensional perspective, - organizing 3 roundtable debates “Media, government, society: debating hate crimes”, open to the wide public, on tackling hate crimes and other forms of violence motivated by discrimination, - conducting research on the scope and quality of protection against violence motivated by discrimination in the EU and Poland in the perspective of the rule of law, including a post-conference book on the selected aspects of violence motivated by discrimination in the EU and its Member States published in English and available in Open Access. Main outcomes: - reinforcing the European dimension of the studies at the host institution, - promotion of excellence in teaching and research on EU matters within the host institution. |
