The Bhama Askhed water pipeline project is a critical infrastructure project for the twin cities of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. It involves laying pipelines of 1,400 mm and 1,700 mm diameters to provide an additional 167 million litres per day (MLD) of water, aiming to end the alternate-day water supply schedule and enable a more regular daily supply. The project is being executed in two phases and is already well advanced, with 60% and 70% of the respective pipelines laid. The project was originally awarded in August 2020 with an initial completion deadline of December 2024, which was later extended to December 2025 and March 2026. Due to persistent delays, the contract with the previous contractor was terminated, and a new tendering process is underway to appoint a new contractor with a fresh 10-month deadline to complete the remaining work by next year.
