Description | India plans to invite bids within three to six months to set up a 220 MWe Bharat Small Modular Reactor (BSMR-200), a pilot project aimed at boosting nuclear energy as part of the country's green transition. The project is jointly designed and developed by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and Nuclear Power Corp of India Ltd (NPCIL). The cost of development and construction is about Rs 5,960 crore, funded under the Nuclear Energy Mission. Construction is expected to take 60 to 72 months after approval. Foreign companies can participate with local partners. The project will serve as a model for future SMR developments. |
