Description | Information Department of Telecommunications has come up with BharatNet with a ticket size of 61109 INR Crores. This project in Telecommunication & Telecom Services sub-sector involves The current status of the project is - and is being developed through the PPP route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project BharatNet, one of the biggest rural telecom projects of the world, is being implemented in a phased manner to provide connectivity at all Gram Panchayats [approx. 2,50,000] with broadband in the country. The Phase-I has been completed in December 2017 with the implementation of over 1 lakh GPs, and the remaining Gram Panchayats are being connected under BharatNet Phase-II. On 30.06.2021, Union Cabinet accorded approval for a revised strategy for implementation of BharatNet through Public-Private Partnership [PPP] model in 16 States of the country covering about 3.61 lakh villages [including 1.37 lakh GPs]. |
