BHP has begun constructing a sixth car dumper at its Nelson Point iron ore export terminal in Port Hedland, Western Australia, expanding its rail-to-ship capacity at one of the world’s largest bulk export ports. The new dumper will sit alongside the existing five units handling BHP’s Pilbara iron ore trains and is expected to streamline wagon unloading and reduce cycle times on the heavy-haul network. The works involve new foundations, track realignments, and materials handling structures in a constrained brownfield port environment.
