Description | The City Council approved the final draft of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan on Monday, December 7, 2020. The 2020 Update of Burlingame’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan aims to improve the safety, health, and quality of life of Burlingame residents through transportation infrastructure, programs, and policy improvements that enhance the safety, comfort, and attractiveness of walking and bicycling for people of all ages and abilities. The plan was developed through a robust, multiphase community engagement process. Over the course of the three-phase outreach process, thousands of comments were received from Burlingame stakeholders. The plan will be an essential tool for guiding city staff, officials, developers and residents in building a balanced transportation system where active modes are supported and accessible. This plan seeks to: Create comprehensive, connected, and accessible bicycle and pedestrian networks Enhance safety and increase comfort for all road users, especially people walking and bicycling Develop data-driven recommendations with input from Burlingame residents Prioritize walking and bicycle improvements near schools, parks, Caltrain, commercial areas, and other community destinations Implement policies and build infrastructure that foster active trips and enhance the experiences of pedestrians and bicyclists Create vibrant and inviting places to walk and bike that include street furniture, wayfinding, lighting, and placemaking elements (including public art) |
