Bicycle Path Beside Danube - Phase I

The main objective of this project is construction of a bicycle path along the Danube, connecting people from the border regions in Hungary and Serbia. The construction of the first phase, financed by this grant, covers a 3-km-long section of the path, starting from the Bezdan Bridge towards the border to Hungary. Within the framework of an already realized cross-border project in 2003-2004, the municipality of Baja as the lead applicant together with the municipality of Sombor had elaborated the technical documentation and the feasibility study. Consequently, this project is a follow-up project and focuses upon the gradual implementation of the previous joint actions. The activities include the preparation of implementation through the tender procedure and the construction of the bicycle path, as well as necessary signalization. Long term objective of the project is focused on socio-economic development of the region and multiculturalism. The primary objective is to focus on sports activities and healthy life in this micro region, with a long tradition of using bicycles as a means of transportation.
