Description | The Big Mitten Energy Center is a state-approved, 450-megawatt battery storage project planned for Colfax Township in Huron County. It is an Aypa Power project expected to be built in Section 1 of Colfax Township, just west of North Van Dyke Road and north of West Richardson Road. The project was approved by the Michigan Public Service Commission on March 27, 2026. The exact construction timeline is not yet known, but it is expected to start construction in 2028 and be online by 2030. The project was originally planned for Windsor Township but was moved to Colfax Township after property acquisition efforts in Windsor Township fell through. The project is a Colfax Township project and was not approved by Huron County officials. |
