Description | The Bijli Mahadev ropeway is a Union government project under the Parvatmala Yojana, also known as the National Ropeways Development Programme. It aims to provide a sustainable and efficient alternative to traditional road transport in hilly areas. The 2.3 km long ropeway will have cable cars with a capacity of 10 people each, reducing travel time from three hours to seven minutes and providing all-weather connectivity. The project is a 50-50 joint venture between the Centre and the Himachal Pradesh state government, funded by the Centre, and executed by the National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML). It has secured stage-1 in-principal permission from the environment ministry and is expected to be completed by 2026. |
