Pakistan is one of the countries most affected by climate change. The province of Khyber Pakhtunkwa (KP), with 1,684,000 hectares of forest area the most forested province in Pakistan, is of great importance for the climate and water supply of the entire country. However, it is affected by rampant deforestation, which is mainly caused by the use of firewood from forest stands and illegal timber trade for construction. The high level of deforestation in recent decades is also putting the livelihoods of the poor population in the province of KP at risk. The FC module supports the Pakistani government through co-financing in the sustainability and governance of the government program Billion Tree Afforestation Program (BTAP) and its government follow-up project 10BTAP. The aim of supporting the government program is to ensure the associated long-term and sustainable protection of local natural resources and to generate additional sources of income from forestry and related activities. The following central measures are intended to make a significant contribution to improving the living conditions of the predominantly poor rural population: drawing up participatory forest management plans (PFDP) and improving the management information system of the forestry administration, co-financing the 10BTAP measures planned for the target districts and strengthening the capacities of the forestry administration and its implementing partners. The target group is the approximately 270,000 residents of around 100 villages in around 13 districts of the three forest districts of Malakand, Upper & Lower Hazara and up to three villages in the Peshawar district in the KP province in Pakistan. The module is designed as an open program that is based on the priorities of the state project sponsor, the KP provincial forestry administration.
