On September 2008, Karachi Electric Supply Corporation KESC (Pakistant, 100 %) an independent power Producer, was signed a Divestiture agreement with PRIVATE POWER & INFRASTRUCTURE BOARD (PPIB) from the ministry of Water and Power of Pakistan, for the construction and operation on a partial divestiture term of a 560 MW, combined cycle (natural gas) power plant at Bin quasim. Under the partial diverstiture agreement, KESC was to supply 560 MW of energy to PPIB. The remainder of the energy was to the public. Following the direct negotiation process, KESC was awarded to set up a 560 MW combined cycle power plant at Vin qasim. The total project cost was 450 US millions. The project reached financial closure in May 2009, after a PPIB's publication. The plant has been commissioned for generating on April 2012. And is expected to start running on May of the same year.
