Description

Description

The FC project Biodiversity and Adaptation to Climate Change in Mongolia in the DC focus area of biodiversity will contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and to the protection and sustainable management of selected ecologically important areas, taking climate change into account, while simultaneously stabilizing/improving the living conditions of the local population (DC program objective). The aim of the FC project is to strengthen the management of the Mongolian protected area system (including carrier zones and eco-corridors) taking climate change into account, while simultaneously improving/stabilizing the living conditions of the local population. The project builds on the Biodiversity and Adaptation to Climate Change project. However, the focus is now on the western regions of Mongolia (e.g. Altay). State protected areas and carrier zones, municipal protected areas and eco-corridors are supported in management and business planning (component 1) and can then qualify for the necessary financing to implement the plans via a competition-based selection mechanism (component 2). Sectoral, cross-protected area investments are intended to strengthen management and implementation capacities in the Ministry for Environment and Green Development (MEGD) (component 3). Training measures, promotion of scientific cooperation and contributions to the political dialogue are anchored in component 4. The primary target group of German development cooperation is the population living in and around the protected areas in predominantly poor conditions, which is highly dependent on the use of natural resources. The FC grant amounts to EUR 10 million for an implementation period of seven years. The project is being carried out in coordination with TC as a module of the joint development cooperation program.
