Description
Description | The FC project Biodiversity and adaptation to climate change in Mongolia l-lll In the DC focus on biodiversity, an open program is intended to contribute to the preservation of biodiversity while taking climate change into account - while at the same time stabilizing/improving living conditions for the neighboring population (DC program goal). The goal of the project is the sustainable management of selected protected areas (SG) or SG complexes and the targeted promotion of sustainable or alternative livelihoods for the local population. The planned Phase III is to be implemented at the same time as Phase II of the project (BMZ No. 2016 67 054, EUR 19.5 million grant). Phases II and III complement the currently ongoing Phase I of the project (BMZ No. 2012 65 511; EUR 11.5 million grant) and enable regional expansion to previously uncovered landing sites in Mongolia, with a particular focus on the west and southwest of the country. Phases II and III are to be implemented using the same conceptual approach as Phase I. Four components are planned for both phases: (1) management planning at the level of the SG complexes and investments for the entire Mongolian SG system, (2) implementation of management and business plans in five large-scale intervention areas in the west and southwest of the country (funding of four intervention areas was already planned as part of Phase II; thanks to the funds from Phase III, a further intervention area can now be funded), (3) targeted support for up to seven SGs selected according to special funding criteria (funding of the same 7 SGs with funds from Phase II and III), and (4) interventions to strengthen sponsorship, build capacity and information campaigns at the national level. The primary target group of German development cooperation is the population living in poor conditions in and around the SGs, which is highly dependent on the use of natural resources. The total cost of the FC project proposed here for financing amounts to EUR 8 million (FC grant) for an implementation period of seven years. |
