Description

Description

Protected area administrations are supported through investments in equipment and infrastructure as well as in planning and management tools to sustainably manage the prioritized nature reserves and protective forests and to ensure the effective protection of biodiversity in the selected habitats in Armenia. Local forestry authorities are strengthened in managing forest areas sustainably and thus ensuring the binding of carbon dioxide in the biomass of the forests, preserving forest habitats and biodiversity and enabling the sustainable coverage of local wood needs. The reforested and rehabilitated forests create connectivity between biodiverse natural areas, enlarge the habitats and thus effectively counteract the loss of biodiversity. Ecosystem services are preserved and the adaptability of ecosystems and people to the consequences of climate change is strengthened. Through targeted promotion and management of ecotourism, the own income of the protected area administrations is increased, which contributes to the sustainable financing of protected area management. The support measures in the communities bordering the sponsoring zones are not only intended to compensate for the negative consequences of the effective enforcement of usage restrictions, but also to help develop new sources of income, increase productivity in local agriculture and livestock farming, and promote sustainable forms of resource management that counteract the overexploitation of natural resources and at the same time have a direct impact on poverty.
