Description

Description

The aim of the fourth phase of the project “Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Forest Management” is: The management of the supported protected areas is more effective, biodiversity is stabilized and the living conditions of the affected population which may have been restricted by the protected areas are improved. This will contribute to achieving the development cooperation programme objective of “The protection of biodiversity, the sustainable management of the tropical forest and the economic situation of the poor local population in selected areas are improved”. The primary target group of the project is the population living around and possibly in the protected areas, who predominantly live in poverty and use the natural resources for their livelihood. Building on the results achieved in the previous phases of the project (BMZ Nos. 2005.66.729; 2008.66.723 and 2010.65.895), the measures will be implemented depending on the respective level of preparation, the development potential and the security situation in what are expected to be the six remaining selected protected areas. In a participatory approach, they include improving the protection of biodiversity through more efficient protected area management, improved protected area infrastructure, the introduction and further development of biomonitoring systems and the improvement of the living conditions of the local population through various investment and training measures. With total costs of around EUR 30 million, this FC module includes a financial contribution of EUR 20 million. The project will run for 3 years.
