The Biogas 2020 project aims to make Scandinavia the best in the world on biogas — it contributes to a sustainable society and also creates new jobs. To achieve this, the main goal of the project is to develop a Scandinavian platform where actors can grow together. Scandinavia has a unique combination of rural and urban areas, developed industries, food production and a strong innovation climate — conditions for increasing the production of locally produced renewable energy. This is what the Biogas 2020 project wants to use, and open pathways for cross-border conversations so that the biogas industry in the region grows. We want to be a strong and common player throughout the biogas value chain. Through this, we hope to help Scandinavia create locally produced renewable energy that can replace fossil energy in vehicles, at the same time as it creates new jobs and contributes to a sustainable and sustainable society," says Peter Eriksson, project coordinator for Biogas 2020. Equalise differences: The support for biogas is different in the Scandinavian countries, which creates a situation that is not good for the development of biogas. Today, biogas is being moved between countries to maximise support, which only benefits individual operators, says Peter Eriksson. Instead, they want to see collaborations in the biogas industry. “We want to create harmony with a support system that helps us grow together, and promotes the development of the biogas industry as a whole,” says Peter Eriksson. Networking and Collaboration: The starting point is three countries and three regions that have completely different conditions and have come different stages in the biogas process, but which can now take bigger steps together. The project’s 35 partners will focus on creating a platform where biogas can be discussed, while developing production, processes and infrastructure within the biogas industry. In this way, Biogas 2020 contributes to networking and exchange of experience, to develop new business models and to create a joint monitoring of the environment. We want to create a biogas platform that will be a forum where countries can channel their biogas issues towards both the EU and their own governments. The network should be able to provide facts and evidence to show what biogas means for the benefit of society and the climate. But it will also make the regions stronger by allowing companies, academia and institutes to reach a larger target group and have greater impact than at home," he says. Social and climate benefits; Peter Eriksson has high hopes that Biogas 2020 will strengthen the entire industry. And he thinks it’s extremely important that it happens soon. We all need to be helped to find alternative and renewable energy sources for the sake of climate. But biogas also creates new jobs and secures food production by converting waste into a nutrient-rich plant nutrient. It’s a good way to go, he says.
