Biological E Limited (“BioE” or “the company” - http://www.biologicale.com) is an Indian vaccines and pharmaceuticals manufacturing company that supplies its vaccines to developing economies and middle income countries in Asia, Middle-East and Latin America and countries supported by UNICEF/Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).  Established in 1953, BioE was the first private sector biological products company established in India and currently has two major business divisions – vaccines and pharmaceuticals. BioE is the leading supplier of vaccines to the central government, state governments and all allied governmental institutions in India. It has been pre-qualified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the 6 global suppliers of liquid pentavalent vaccine (LPV - used to vaccinate children against 5 potentially fatal diseases such as meningitis, pneumonia, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis B and diphtheria); and is the first Indian company to have received WHO prequalification for its inactivated Japanese encephalitis (JE) vaccine.  BioE has three operational facilities in Hyderabad for vaccine manufacturing: (i) Shameerpet (which is the largest facility established in 2005 that manufactures vaccines for Hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenzae type b, Diphtheria, Pertussis and LPV); (ii) Azamabad (for JE vaccines) and (iii) Gaganpahad (Tetanus and Anti Snake Venom vaccines) – both established in 1960s. In addition, the company is developing a new vaccine manufacturing facility adjacent to the existing Shameerpet facility which will be commissioned by 2019. For its pharmaceutical business, the company has one operational facility at Patancheru in Hyderabad, which is proposed to be closed and the operations will be merged with the new pharmaceutical facility being developed at Shameerpet (adjacent to existing vaccines manufacturing facility), which will be operational by July 2017. The company has another pharmaceutical manufacturing facility at Dehradun in Northern India, which was established in 2000 and manufactures liquid syrups and cough syrups for the domestic market.IFC’s proposed investment includes USD 60 million corporate loan to the company to scale up its product offerings including the launch of four new vaccines to be manufactured at company’s existing vaccine manufacturing facility at Shameerpet and the new vaccine manufacturing facility being developed adjacent to the existing facility also in Shameerpet (the “project).
