Description

Description

The project involves converting the former VOC Zoological Park site in Coimbatore into a dedicated Birds Park (aviary). Under the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR), the plan focuses on repurposing and retaining existing structures from the closed zoo—especially the old bird cages—to reduce costs and use available infrastructure efficiently. The proposed bird park is designed to be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with specialists who executed a similar aviary in Trichy engaged for the execution. Spread over approximately 4.5 acres, the park is planned to accommodate around 1,000 birds of about 40 species, providing a space for bird conservation, public education, and eco-tourism. The revisions have helped lower the estimated project cost from around ₹10 crore (US$1 million) to ₹6–7 crore, while the DPR is expected to be finalized soon.
