Description | The Bishoftu International Airport project is a large-scale aviation infrastructure development planned in two phases, aiming to handle 60 million passengers annually in the first phase and expand to 110 million passengers in the second phase. The project includes terminals, runways, utilities, roads, and rail connections, and is expected to relieve congestion at Bole International Airport and support Ethiopia's ambition to become Africa's leading aviation hub. Eight alternative sites were evaluated, with Site six selected as the preferred location due to its proximity to Addis Ababa, moderate altitude, and lower construction costs. The project is expected to be completed by 2029. |
