Description | Bishoftu International Airport is a major infrastructure project in Ethiopia aiming to build Africa's biggest airport near Addis Ababa. The airport is designed to handle phased capacities up to 110 million passengers annually with multiple runways, extensive passenger, cargo, and operational infrastructure. The project is backed by the Ethiopian government, Ethiopian Airlines, and the African Development Bank, with a total cost of $12.5 billion. Construction officially started on 2026-01-10, with the airport expected to boost global aviation, passenger capacity, connectivity, and economic growth by 2030. |
