Description | Bishoftu International Airport (BIA) is a large transport infrastructure project near Bishoftu, Ethiopia, planned to be the continent's largest airport with four runways. The project aims to alleviate pressure on Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and enhance tourism opportunities. It is planned to be built in phases, initially accommodating 60 million passengers per year by 2030, with a future capacity of 110 million passengers. The airport will be connected by a 38 km railway to the capital and Bole International Airport, and may include hotels, shopping malls, and commercial complexes. Construction is set to begin in earnest from August 2026, with the first phase completion planned by the end of the decade. |
