Description | Bishoftu International Airport is Africa's largest airport under construction, located 40 kilometres south of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The project features an X-shaped terminal inspired by the Great Rift Valley, incorporating eco-friendly designs such as natural ventilation, solar shading, rainwater harvesting, and photovoltaic energy. The airport will replace the capacity-constrained Bole International Airport and is designed to handle up to 110 million passengers annually upon full build-out, with phase one supporting 60 million passengers and two runways. The project is led by Ethiopian Airlines and designed by UK-based Zaha Hadid Architects in partnership with Dar Al-Handasah as lead consultant and technical advisor. |
