The $7 billion city near Baghdad was planned to have 100,000 houses and accommodate nearly 600,000 people. Construction was halted after 30,000 houses due to delayed payments by Baghdad. The project was originally scheduled for completion in 2019 but has been delayed due to security issues and financial disputes. Iraq's National Investment Commission is coordinating to resolve the payment issues and plans to sign a new agreement with Hanwha to complete the remaining 70,000 houses. |
