Description | An ambitious undersea tunnel project between BKC and Shillphata using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) for a 5 km tunnel stretch including a challenging 7 km segment beneath the Thane Creek. The project started tunneling in May 2024 and has achieved a breakthrough in a 2.7 km section connecting the ADIT to the Savali shaft. Excavation between the Savali shaft and the tunnel portal at Shillphata is complete, preparing for integration with the Mega Airport High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) viaduct segment. The remaining 16 km of tunneling will be done using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). The tunnel will be a single tube of 13.1 meters diameter to accommodate twin tracks for both up and down lines. Comprehensive safety measures and access restrictions are implemented to ensure safe construction. |
