Description | The project involves the construction of a 5 km undersea tunnel stretch between BKC and Shillphata using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM). It includes a challenging 7 km segment beneath the Thane Creek. Excavation started in May 2024, with a breakthrough achieved for a continuous 2.7 km section connecting the ADIT to the Savali shaft. The tunnel will be a single tube of 13.1 meters diameter to accommodate twin tracks for both up and down lines. The remaining 16 km of tunnelling will be done using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). Comprehensive safety measures are implemented to ensure safe tunnelling without disturbing nearby structures. |
