Description | The historic Black Hawk Bridge linking Iowa and Wisconsin over the Mississippi River is set to be demolished in the third quarter of 2025 due to its deteriorating condition and inability to meet modern safety standards. The bridge, originally constructed in 1929 and opened in 1931, will be replaced by a new bridge expected to be ready for traffic in 2027. The existing bridge is 504 meters long with a 21-meter clearance and features a single lane in each direction. Detours will be available during demolition, and discussions are ongoing about a temporary ferry service until the new bridge is completed. |
