Black Hawk Bridge Replacement Project

The existing Black Hawk Bridge, a key Mississippi River crossing between Iowa and Wisconsin, will be permanently closed and demolished in fall 2025 to make way for a new bridge structure expected to open in 2027. The new bridge is being built adjacent to the historic 1931 cantilever Black Hawk Bridge. The closure is part of a major infrastructure overhaul to ensure safety during the remaining construction phases. Temporary closures have already occurred due to structural issues. Alternatives such as water taxi service and roadway detours are being considered to ease travel disruptions.
