Description

Description

The COVID-19 pandemic is a threat to decades of progress in the fight against poverty and inequality around the world. In response, BlueOrchard has launched the BlueOrchard COVID-19 Emerging & Frontier Markets MSME Support Fund with an initial capital of USD 160 million. The fund is supported by various public and private investors, including Schroders and global development finance institutions such as BII, DFC, FDSA, KfW, JICA and Seco. It is designed to provide liquidity and venture capital to creditworthy financial institutions. The aim is to maintain lending to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in developing and emerging markets, especially those led by women, against the backdrop of liquidity challenges caused by COVID-19. The fund provides liquidity facilities and subordinated loans to selected financial institutions to build their resilience and mitigate the economic impact of the pandemic, while ensuring continued support to MSMEs.
