The OBS project (Blue Stone Objective) has been prompted by a territorial, economic and political situation common to the territory located on both sides of the Franco-Belgian border. The blue stone sector occupies an essential place in the economic fabric and is part of the territorial identity of this area. The “know-how" related to this sector is a niche economy, with a potential for job creation. However, the sector is facing economic difficulties (foreign competition, loss of local and artisanal know-how, difficulty in finding suitably skilled manpower), and that despite the existing potential and the available resources. In response to these different issues, the project therefore aims to create a true economic area for the blue stone. It aims to support and develop a culture and economy hinged around the blue stone and the related know-how developed on both sides of the border. In order to achieve the realisation of these objectives, the project is structured around three main actions whose goal will be to: improve the growth potential of economic stakeholders in the sector; develop innovative activities and set up cross-border training in the stone trades in order to offer a broader range of options to all job-seekers in the cross-border area.
