Description | Following the devastating floods in April 2022 that damaged the old Blundell Road Bridge and cut off access to Shallcross and surrounding communities, a group of volunteers formed the Pompeni River Bridge project team to clear debris and temporarily reconnect the area. The eThekwini Municipality then rebuilt the bridge within two years, meeting modern engineering standards and ensuring climate resilience. The new bridge is 90 metres long and 14 metres wide, accommodating two full traffic lanes and dedicated pedestrian walkways, with approximately 450 metres of newly constructed roadway. |
