Description
Description | The BNP Paribas New Horizons International Film Festival takes place in Wroclaw, Poland. The festival was established in 2001 as a platform to present cinema that seeks new forms of expression. The festival’s goal is to present the latest trends in contemporary artistic film, discover and promote lesser known, mainly European filmmakers, as well as educating viewers. The application concerns the 25th and 26th festival editions, which will be held in hybrid form on the following dates: - 25th NH IFF: 17-27.07.2025 (offline); 17.07-03.08.2025 (online); - 26th NH IFF: 23.07-02.08.2026 (offline); 23.07-09.08.2026 (online). The 2025 and 2026 New Horizons IFF will include around 500 films in total of which about 60% are European non-national productions. Despite its demanding repertoire, the festival draws large audiences. Over the years, New Horizons has become the most popular festival in Poland and one of the most popular in Central and Eastern Europe. In 2025 and 2026, our goal is to, once again, reach around 138,000 participants. Some of the most important festival elements include retrospectives of European filmmakers – visionaries and experimental directors, and national reviews. The 2025 and 2026 will contain: 2025 – retrospectives of Anne-Marie Miéville (Switzerland, France), Athina Rachel Tsangari (Greece), Anka and Wilhelm Sasnal (Poland) and focus on Norwegian and Icelandic cinema; 2026 – retrospectives of Márta Mészáros (Hungary), Catherine Breillat (France), Hélène Cattet / Bruno Forzani (Belgium, France), Dane Komljen (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and focus on Georgian independent cinema. The festival will expand its educational repertoire to include approximately 200 meetings with festival guests as well as lectures, discussion panels and master classes. Industry events will include among others: 14th and 15th Polish Days – a forum for presenting Polish movies, with the participation of European film industry professionals. |
