Description

Description

This project involves the development of Boankra Inland Port. The port is strategically located near Kumasi and was initiated in 1990. It serves as an inland extension to the Tema Port. It has been partially developed, with an administration block, access roads and utility connections. Plans for further development include an Inland Container Depot; port administration, shippers and freight forwarders offices; warehouses and commercial buildings. The project aims to ease the congestion at the Tema and Takoradi ports, the main ports in Ghana, and also to bring import and export services closer to the door-steps of shippers in the northern part of Ghana as well as in the landlocked neighbouring countries of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger. The main objective of the BOT option is to maximise risk transfer to the private party. This option typically delivers the most value for money if the private sector has both the appetite to accept the risk and the ability to manage it better than the Government.Under this proposed structure, the private party will be responsible for all functions and associated risks in relation to the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the port assets whilst Government through its Implementing Authority, GPHA/GSA will be responsible for regulating the activities of the private party and ensuring they perform to the required standards.
