Description | A battery energy storage system (BESS) facility is planned for Hawkins County's Phipps Bend Industrial Park. The project is a 20-year agreement between Bobwhite Energy Storage, an affiliate of Tenaska, and the Tennessee Valley Authority. The facility will strengthen grid reliability, manage peak demand, and keep power affordable by storing excess electricity to deploy when needed. Construction is expected to start in 2027, creating 75 jobs at peak, and the facility is expected to be operational by late 2029. The project represents an estimated $300 million investment into the local economy. |
