Description
Description | The road connecting Bogota to Villavicencio has a total extension of 106.5 km. Coviandes will rehabilitate, maintain and operate 31.3 km (from Villavicencio to Puente Real) and maintain and operate the remaining of the road (this section has been rehabilitated by the government agency Invias). Coviandes is 60% owned by Sociedad Financiera de Los Andes and 40% owned by the Spanish construction company Dragados (part of the ACS Group as of 2003). The construction works started on Sep. 1996 and were expected to be completed by 2000. Invias guarantees a minimum traffic flow. The concession contract was granted for 312 months or 26 years. The segment included were: Tramo 2 Portal Bogotá - El Antojo (9,21 Km), Tramo 3 El Antojo - Puente Real (16,3 Km), Tramo 4 Puente Real - Puente Téllez (12,79 Km), Tramo 5 Puente Téllez - Cano Seco (32,13 Km), and Tramo 6 Cano seco - Villavicencio (15,13 Km) The last stretch of the Bogota-Villavicencio highway was finalized and opened in August 2002. The total project required $262 million in total, with the Government paying for the rest. With the final stretch open, the Bogota-Villavicencio highway totals 96km in length. In November 2005, the Instituto Nacional de Concesiones (INCO - Colombia's National Concessions Institute) anounced that it would renegotiate eight highway contracts. These contracts were costing the Government US$131 million (300,000 million pesos) each year in minimum revenue guarantees. Included in those is the contract for the Bogota - Villavicencio Toll Road concession. Conversations for the renegotiation of this contract had started at the time of the anouncement. In January 2010, the government renegotiated the contract to include the expansion of the highway at an additional investment of US$ 1 million (Pesos 1835 million). The new contract was set to expire in August 2023. |
