The project involves the construction of the 15MW Bohicon solar PV plant in Zou department, Benin. The sponsors, French independent power producer GreenYellow and Egnon Consulting, signed a concession agreement for the development, financing, construction and operation of the project. Both companies were selected after a competitive bidding process that was carried out by the government of Benin in partnership with the Millennium Challenge Account-Benin II (MCA-Benin II), a US bilateral development fund managed by the Millennium Challenge Corporation. The financing was provided by the International Finance Corporation and Proparco. The electricity produced by the $14.3 million project will be sold to the Société béninoise d’énergie électrique (SBEE) under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
