Bolstered Defense of Pacific Sea Lanes

planned

Japan is considering ramping up defense of Pacific Ocean sea lanes to prevent disruptions to vital fuel and food imports from countries such as Australia. The government plans to set up an expert panel to discuss changes to Japan's National Security Strategy, aiming to incorporate protecting Pacific sea lanes as a pillar of economic defense. Initial measures include employing surveillance aircraft and island-based radar systems, and expanding cooperation with allies and partners to protect the South Pacific route linking Japan with Australia.
