"""BONGOLAND"" is Adrián Silvestre’s third feature after his success with Los objetos amorosos (2016, FIPRESCI Jury Award at Seville EFF, Jury Prize at Queer Lisboa) and Sedimentos (2021, Málaga, BFI, San Sebastián, Special Jury Award at Thessaloniki). Intended for cinema, TV and VOD, and aimed at reaching a broad international audience, the film portrays the story of Ted and Marcia, a British couple in their sixties who travel to Gran Canaria to spend their holidays in the sun. Instead of strengthening their stalled relationship, it will lead them separate ways as they explore and rediscover their own desire. Maspalomas, a popular sex tourism destination in Europe, with its nudist beaches, dunes and promiscuous nightlife, will be the setting of Ted’s realization of long-repressed homosexuality, while Marcia, discovering herself alone in a sinking couple, will finally embrace her own independence. This film addresses universal themes that have been largely overlooked such as love and desire at a mature age; coming out of the closet as an old, married man; and the rupture of socially established female roles, through a story set in an attractive non-place that will leave room for Ted and Marcia’s self-exploratory journeys. Silvestre is working with ALBA SOTORRA SL (SP) and PHANTA FILM (NL) on producing a film that is respectful of gender, age, sexual orientation and the environment both onscreen and behind the cameras. We intend to count on renowned professional actors for the main characters and non-actors as extras to portray situations of local life with realism, from Adrián’s distinctive documentary-inspired POV. Our target audience are Independent Movie Goers(+35), Feminine Silver Audience(+45) and the LGBT+ niche. After attending prestigious labs such as QueerCinelab—winning Best Project Award—and MFI Script 2 Film, we will strive to develop the script to its full potential and to find the best partners for the development and production of a successful film."
