Description
Description | The BOOKMARK project aims to enhance the accessibility of contemporary European literature by translating and publishing 13 books from 11 different languages (Italian, German, Ukrainian, Portuguese, Spanish, Polish, Bulgarian, Finnish, Croatian, Dutch, and Slovenian) into three target languages: Slovenian, Spanish, and English. Addressing the need for a broader circulation of European literary works, the project supports linguistic diversity by offering high-quality translations of outstanding contemporary fiction. Led by Založba Goga (Slovenia) in partnership with Grupo Editorial Sargantana (Spain), the initiative ensures that literary translators receive prominent recognition, with their names featured on book covers and in promotional activities. A key focus is the commitment to preserving human intellectual work, explicitly stating that AI-generated translations will not replace professional translators. The project includes professional translation, editing, and publication of selected books in both print and e-book formats, ensuring accessibility to a wide readership. A comprehensive promotional strategy will be implemented, leveraging a joint marketing approach through literary events, book trailers, social media campaigns, and bookstore partnerships to maximize visibility. Authors and translators will participate in residency programs, book fairs, and literary festivals across Europe, fostering cross-cultural exchange and strengthening international literary collaboration. Additionally, the project places special emphasis on supporting Ukrainian refugees by distributing books in Ukrainian, providing a means for cultural preservation and literacy within displaced communities. By ensuring expertly curated, high-quality literary translations, BOOKMARK contributes to the international reach of European authors and the promotion of multilingualism, enriching the European literary landscape. |
