The project involves the Design-Build Program for the New York City (NYC) Borough-Based Jails System, Brooklyn Facility in the USA.The project aims to replace the outdated Rikers Island prison with a smaller network of modern, safer jails. The three other jails will be located in The Bronx, Manhattan and Queens. The NYC Borough-Based Jails System is a project to close the Rikers Island jail complex and replace it with four modern, borough-based facilities. One of these facilities will be located in Brooklyn and will have a capacity of 1,437 beds. The new facility is being designed to meet modern standards for safety, rehabilitative services, and accessibility, and will feature amenities such as outdoor recreation areas, educational and vocational programming spaces, and meeting rooms for legal and other visits.
