Boston-Area Thermal Energy Network Project (BosTEN Project)

The BosTEN Project is an initiative led by the Boston Green Ribbon Commission, jointly funded by MassCEC and the City of Boston, to explore the technical, regulatory, and economic feasibility of using thermal energy from Boston-area water sources to support a transition away from natural gas. The project will assess thermal energy supply, distribution, demand, investment opportunities, and regulatory barriers related to thermal reservoirs such as Boston Harbor, Charles River, Mystic River, Fort Point Channel, and bedrock below the Charles and Mystic River.
