The Boston Thermal Energy Network Project (BosTEN) is a yearlong study to evaluate whether thermal energy from Boston Harbor, the Charles River, the Mystic River, and underground sources can be harnessed to provide large-scale, low-carbon heating and cooling for multiple buildings across Boston. The project aims to reduce costs, lower emissions, and ease pressure on traditional gas and electric systems by exploring a thermal energy network that circulates ambient-temperature water through connected buildings.
