Description | The Boston Hydroelectric Plant is a 5MW run-of-river hydroelectric facility developed by Serengeti Energy as part of the Lesotho Highlands Water Scheme near Clarens, South Africa. The plant has a project cost of US$21 million and began commercial operation on 2025-10-17, feeding renewable power into South Africa's national grid. Growthpoint Properties acquired a 30% stake in the plant and secured exclusive access to all 30GWh of electricity produced annually through a power purchase agreement with Etana Energy. The plant is expected to operate for more than 40 years and supply renewable power to Growthpoint's properties. |
