The Boston Thermal Energy Network (BosTEN) project aims to explore the technical, economic, and regulatory feasibility of using clean thermal energy from Boston-area waterways to provide heating and cooling to institutions and businesses. The project intends to demonstrate that thermal energy networks can reduce pollution, mitigate peaks on gas and electric systems, and deliver long-term cost savings by harnessing thermal energy from the Charles and Mystic Rivers, Boston Harbor, the Fort Point Channel, and the bedrock beneath the rivers using a closed system.
