Botswana - Morpupe Power Station

The project would add 90 MW to the present installed generating capacity in order to meet BPC's forecasted medium run demand and would inter-connect the two currently isolated national networks by providing a centrally operated power station burning run-of mine coal instead of imported oil. The project would develop indigenous energy resources, increase mining activities create new job opportunities and help improve reliability of supply in the BPC network. It is the first phase of a staged development leading to an installed network. It is the first phase of s staged development leading to an installed capacity of 180 MW around 1990 and 420 MW by the year 2000.
