Botswana - Public Enterprise Evaluation and Privatization Agency (PEEPA)

The present project relates to the Support the Public Enterprises Evaluation and Privatization Agency (PEEPA) in improving private sector participation in the delivery of public infrastructure and services. It's initiated because the Government of Botswana wishes to further advance the implementation of its privatization program, a key component of its diversification agenda. The project should contribute to accelerating the implementation of the privatization program by building practical privatization skills and through the demonstration effect of delivering two high priority transactions. It includes four components, namely : (A) advisory services for development of a strategy for involving private sector participation in Botswana Power Corporation and energy supply industry, and privatization training; (B) advisory services for the development of a private sector participation structure for the provision of maintenance services to government buildings, for assisting in the procurement and selection of a private sector provider and PEEPA staff training; (C) Improving technical skills of PEEPA staff through a secondment program the involves advanced sister institutions in other countries; and (D) Consulting services for preparing a policy for citizen economic empowerment in privatization projects.
