At present only an estimated 20% of the population are within easy travel distance of a health facility. By making more nurses available to staff the ambitious program of building health posts and clinics already launched by the government, the project will enable a considerable increase in the coverage of the health care system. It will also substantially benefit preventive health, nutrition and public health education generally.
