The City of Boulder is developing an Integrated Water Supply Plan to maintain a reliable water supply amid challenges posed by climate change and population growth. The plan involves assessing current water sources and projecting future water demands under various scenarios, including optimistic, continued trends, stressed, and severe conditions. The city sources water from Middle Boulder Creek, North Boulder Creek, and the upper Colorado River via the Colorado-Big Thompson and Windy Gap projects, each contributing about a third of the supply. The plan aims to balance water supply with urban tree canopy preservation and water-efficient landscaping.
