Description | The Stratos project is a proposed hyperscale data center in Box Elder County, Utah, driven by business mogul Kevin O’Leary. The project has drawn criticism and concerns regarding environmental impact, water use, and job projections. Lawmakers on the Utah Legislature's Natural Resources Interim Committee voted to study the impacts of data centers, including this project. The data center is planned to produce its own power and not take water from the Great Salt Lake. A water right change application was filed and then withdrawn, with expectations to be refiled. The center is expected to use 1,900 acre-feet of water with a net zero impact on the lake. |
