The development objective of the Nitrous Oxide (N2O) Emission Reduction Project is to reduce emissions of N2O, a powerful greenhouse gas, which will, in the absence of the project, have been emitted into the atmosphere contributing to the damaging effects of climate change. There are four components to the project. The first component of the project activity consists of the installation of a thermal decomposition unit for N2O emissions from adipic acid production. In the second component of the project the activity will be located within the boundaries of an adipic acid plant owned by Rhodia Energia Brasil Ltda in Paulinia, state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The third component is that the carbon offset project falls under the large-scale Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project activity category of chemical industries. The fourth component of the project is being fully implemented according to the description presented in the Project Design Document (PDD).
