Description

The Brazilian company Brasil Biofuels S.A. was granted the authorization to build, own and operate a palm-residue fueled power plant located in the state of Roraima (16 MW in total capacity). The 30-year contracts were signed with the regulatory agency ANEEL starting in June 2009. The power plants were named UTE Brasil Biofuels (16 MW), UTE BBF Benjamin Constant (9.8 MW) and BBF Tefe (9.8 MW). The electricity produced in the UTE Brasil Biofuels was sold under power purchase agreements with electricity distribution companies established in the auction promoted by ANEEL in April 2010. The power purchase agreement established that the company was to supply electricity to the state of Roraima between 2013 and 2027. The other power plants had not established power purchase agreements as of December 2013. The total investment committed to the UTE Brasil Biofuels was estimated at US$ 32.9 million (BRL 65 million). Commercial operations began in January 2013. As of December 2013, construction works on the other power plants had not commenced.
